The idea of a free access dictionary with terms and definitions related to Virtual Design and Construction was born due to the lack of consensus of these and the need to consolidate the different definitions found in different sources of information on the same term.
In 2017, when I proposed the development of Peruvian Technical Standards to INACAL derived from the Subcommittee ISO/TC 59/SC 13 Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM), I observed, for example, that in some cases the definition of BIM varied from one ISO standard to another. Likewise, with the advancement of various BIM implementation policies in various countries, the diversification of definitions increased significantly.
Additionally, with the introduction of the definitions provided by the framework of the Virtual Design and Construction Methodology, created by the CIFE of Stanford University in 2001, the conflicts between terms and definitions were more pronounced.
Motivated by the foregoing, a compilation of terms and definitions resulting from research and suitable publications available is proposed through this dictionary. Whenever there are several valid definitions for the same term, these will be shared, and duly referenced, so that the reader can know and decide which is the most appropriate to the objectives of their business and / or profession, study / research.
